  • Types of hollow cup motors and future developments
    Apr 01, 2024
What is a hollow cup motor A hollow cup motor is a motor with a hollow rotor inside the motor and an external shape like a cup. It is widely used in the automotive industry, such as oil pumps, water pumps, air conditioning compressors and other equipment.   Common hollow cup motor models 1. PMDC shrink cup motor PMDC shrink cup motor is a kind of permanent magnet DC motor, due to the use of rare earth permanent magnets, with high efficiency, high power density, small size and other characteristics. This type of motor is suitable for use in hydraulic pump systems, cooling water pumps and other equipment in the automotive industry. 2. BLDC Shrink Cup Motor BLDC shrink cup motor is a kind of brushless DC motor with three-phase permanent magnets and electronic commutator controller, featuring high efficiency, high power density and long service life. This type of motor is suitable for air-conditioning compressor, generator, injection pump and other equipment in the automotive industry. 3. SR Shrink Cup Motor SR shrink cup motor is a kind of switched reluctance motor with low inductance and low noise due to the use of windings. This type of motor is suitable for the transmission system, hydraulic pump, generator and other equipment in the automotive industry. The Future of Hollow Cup Motors With the continuous development of the automotive industry, hollow cup motors will also be more widely used. In the future, the development direction of hollow cup motor will be more efficient, environmentally friendly and energy saving. It is expected that in the next few years, hollow cup motors will occupy a larger market share in the automotive industry.

  • Brushed DC Motor vs Brushless DC Motor
    Dec 25, 2023
There are two types of commonly used DC motors: Brushed motors, and brushless motors (or BLDC motors). As their names imply, DC brushed motors have brushes, which are used to commutate the motor to cause it to spin. Brushless motors replace the mechanical commutation function with electronic control. A brushless DC motor, also known as synchronous DC motor, unlike brushed DC motors, do not have a commutator. The commutator in a brushless DC motor is replaced by an electronic servomechanism that can detect and adjust the angle of the rotor. A brushed DC motor features a commutator that reverses the current every half cycle and creates single direction torque. While brushed DC motors remain popular, many have been phased out for more efficient brushless models in recent years. The following table summarizes the main advantages and disadvantages of each motor type: In many applications, either a brushed or brushless DC motor can be used. They function based on the same principles of attraction and repulsion between coils and permanent magnets. Both have advantages and disadvantages that may cause you to choose one over the other, depending on your application’s requirements.
